Subcontractor Solicitation of Interest

LACCD ELAC KWAC

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is soliciting interest from qualified subcontractors and suppliers to participate in the bidding for award phase of the project.  The Scope of Work includes:

a. LACCD East Los Angeles College, Kinesiology Wellness Athletic Center (ELAC KWAC)

McCarthy and HED have been awarded the LACCD Kinesiology Wellness Athletic Center (KWAC). The KWAC building is a new 96,000 SF consisting of a new competition gymnasium, weight room, lockers rooms, juice bar, studio and fitness rooms, conference rooms, classrooms, offices, workstation areas, huddle rooms, Physical Therapy lab spaces, support spaces, and Rooftop PV. The existing Bungalows portables and parking lot areas will need to be demolished prior to the start of KWAC construction. The existing Child Development Center is an active building which needs to be maintained throughout construction while the existing Men's Gym needs to remain active until the KWAC Building is completed. The new KWAC Building will connect to the existing campus hydronic loop at the CUP, the campus Medium Voltage Loop and the campus communication fiber loop. The new Site work includes a new Multipurpose Field, public gathering/seating areas, landscape areas, and a new fire access road.

Bidders will be awarded a Stipulated Sum (Lump Sum) Design Build/Assist Contract. The contract will require Part A & Part B services (Part A = Design & Preconstruction Costs; Part B = Construction Costs). Each Bid Trade Package will have the specific Part A design and preconstruction responsibilities outlined in a McCarthy Scope Sheet.

Note: LACCD requires contractors to be able to satisfy their Project Labor Agreement (PLA). Technology contractors must be pre-approved with LACCD.

Work categories to be awarded include: Curtain Wall & Glazing, Window Washing Systems, Athletic Equipment, Bleachers, Elevators, Fire Protection, and Technology (Communications, Audio Visual, Access Control, CCTV, and ERRCS DAS).

Key Subcontractor Qualifications: Design-build experience; bondable and prequalified with McCarthy Building Co.

Key Dates: Request for Proposals (RFP) issued to Subcontractors – 2/20/24 via Building Connected; RFI’s Due 3/01/23; Proposals Due to McCarthy – 3/06/24; Interviews for shortlisted Subcontractors – Week of 3/18/24.

* - This project will require subcontractors to sign the Project Labor Agreement (PLA)

* - This project contains an Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP)

* - A 100% Performance and Payment Bond from an admitted surety will be required upon award of contract for all trades.
